The Computational Biology (Comp. Bio) Department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (SJCRH) is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Research Scientist to work on familial cancer studies in conjunction with investigators from Division of Cancer Predisposition. The Comp. Bio Department has a well-established track record in leading bioinformatics analyses for high-profile research investigations, such as the St. Jude/Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project, which has resulted in multiple, high impact publications in journals, such as New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Methods, JAMA and Cancer Cell. We provide an interactive teamwork environment, access to a state-of-art computational infrastructure, well-established analytical pipelines, and deep experience in analyzing, managing, visualizing and delivering superior-quality results for innovative and very competitive projects. You will have the opportunity to work on large-scale discovery projects using the latest genomic sequencing technologies including whole genome/exome sequencing, RNA-seq, CHIP-seq, and ATAC-Seq. The Division of Cancer Predisposition in the Department of Oncology at SJCRH focuses on identifying, studying and managing patients and families with germline mutations that predispose to pediatric cancer and influence response to treatment. Researchers within SJCRH are highly collaborative and interactive, both within the Institution and with outside investigators. If you have a strong background in population and/or statistical genetics, a deep understanding of biological problems, critical thinking skills, and expertise in genomic data analysis, you are highly encouraged to apply for this position. Job Qualifications: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics or related field required. Prior experience must include research related to bioinformatics (such as analysis of DNA and RNA sequence data, microarray, SNPs, imaging data, proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms, statistical methods, or scientific software).
OR
If Ph.D. training did not include bioinformatics research, will require a minimum of two (2) years of pre- or postdoctoral research experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics.
Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, or Java required. Experience with Python and knowledge on statistical analysis package such as R, SAS and Matlab is highly desired.
