Position Summary
Moderna is seeking an exceptionally talented and highly motivated bioinformatician with a broad skill base to work as part of a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and fast-paced team. Moderna s mission to develop mRNA therapeutics means that this position will be responsible for a wide range of projects, from comprehensive investigation of individual targets to efficient and concise analysis of large data sets. The successful candidate will work closely with the team to develop and apply bioinformatics tools and resources in support of numerous R&D projects and therapeutic programs.Responsibilities
- Develop and apply bioinformatics methods and data processing pipelines to solve the needs and challenges specific to developing mRNA therapeutics
- Process and analyze data from a wide variety of Next Generation Sequencing experiments
- Mine relevant publicly available and commercial data resources
- Provide bioinformatics expertise to support multiple projects and programs across the company
- Contribute to external collaborations relevant to bioinformatics
- Communicate findings internally and externally
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S with 2+ years of experience or M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or related field
- The minimum skill set includes scientific and technical expertise in the following:
- Analysis of large-scale datasets (NGS, microarray, proteomics, etc)
- Sequence searching, alignment, and analysis
- Mining of public databases of biological sequences, structures, and functional data
- Biostatistics, including Design Of Experiments, statistical analysis, and modeling
- Technical proficiency required in:
- Python, including core packages in the scientific computing stack (e.g. numpy, scipy, pandas, etc.)
- Commonly used commercial and open source software packages for data processing, analysis, and presentation (e.g. Bowtie, STAR, Sailfish, Spotfire, JMP)
- Proven ability to draw robust conclusions from complex datasets, and present them in a clear and understandable way to a broad audience
- Strong written and oral communication skills, comfort with senior management interactions
- Positive team building and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S with 4+ years of experience or M.S. with 2+ years of experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or related field
- The ideal candidate will have additional expertise in the following:
- Alignment, assembly, and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data from RNA-Seq, ribosomal footprinting, CLIP-Seq / PAR-CLIP, etc.
- Motif discovery, gene ontology and pathway analysis, etc.
- Data science and machine learning techniques for data analysis
- Technical proficiency desired in:
- High Performance Computing, preferably in a cloud environment, (e.g. AWS, Google)
- Software development best practices, including version control (git), unit testing, and deployment (docker)
