Job Description:
We are seeking two Postdoctoral Scientists to join Professor Chris Newbold’s Molecular Parasitology research group to work on the understanding of immunity and pathogenesis in malaria. The role will involve work on the control of expression of these multi-gene families, their function and the immune response to them using extensive sequence data that has been compiled.   The Postdoctoral Scientists will be responsible for taking a leading role on the above projects; developing new assays and techniques; generating and analysing data; reporting and presenting the results internally and at external meetings; assisting with supervision and training of other staff; and liaising with collaborators both in the UK and overseas.   Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree in a subject relevant to either epigenetic regulation of gene expression or the production, purification, biochemical and immunological analysis of heterologously expressed protein and basic bioinformatics skills. They will have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact productively and accurately with other team members. A strong research background, good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.   The post is fixed-term for up to 3 years initially. Applications from candidates who have not yet completed their PhD will be considered, to be appointed at Grade 6 (£27,328 - £32,600 p.a.) with amended duties and responsibilities.   Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.   Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Wednesday 27 April 2016 will be considered.
