Job Description:
TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, Biological Engineering, to participate in fast-moving research projects in computational biology in the laboratory of Professor Ernest Fraenkel. The position entails working both independently and in a small team as a skilled programmer to assist with research on human disease. The responsibilities of the position include applying software developed in the lab to new datasets in order to identify disease-related pathways; identifying and eliminating bottlenecks in current software; automating manual steps in current analysis pipelines; developing web interfaces to current software; and transitioning software to the Cloud.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as engineering, applied math, computer science, bioinformatics, or related field; a minimum of one year of bioinformatics experience, including familiarity with omic data types such as sequencing data and/or proteomics; experience in software development, including strong programming skills in a high-level language, especially Python, R and/or MATLAB; proficiency with Linux/UNIX-based environments; demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills; and the ability to work independently and to understand current area of research.
