Job Description:
Position is responsible for scientific programming, design and analysis, database administration, data extraction and processing, and collaboration in support of projects related to wheat and barley genomics. This position will promote further collaborative research by data sharing and joint efforts on the development of a public database for the research community.

Physical Demands:
-Sit at a computer for extended periods of time.

Work Environment:
-Work schedule to substantially overlap other members of the GrainGenes staff.

-Work location is at the USDA-ARS Western Regional Research Center, 800 Buchanan Street, Albany, CA 94710.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in computer science, genetics and bioinformatics and/or equivalent experience/training.

-Experience applying and implementing bioinformatic analysis tools, algorithms, and databases.

-Experience in bioinformatics using a number of programming languages/tools, such as Perl, PHP, Javascript, and MySQL.

-Experience with UNIX and LINUX operating systems.

-Analytical and problem-solving skills.

-Experience with multiple operating systems, modern programming languages, relational database management systems, and web technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience using and programming for content management systems, especially Drupal.

-Knowledge of diverse, fundamental computer algorithms and visualization tools (such as BLAST, GBrowse) that have been successfully applied to bioinformatics research.

-Interpersonal, communication and management skills to facilitate professional interactions in an interdisciplinary and diverse environment.
