Job Description:

WORK ACTIVITIES

Data Mining and Biomarker Discovery:

Develops project and/or disease based biomarker analysis plans and strategies in collaboration with proteomics scientists.

Provide technical support in database integration between multiple environments as necessary for system performance and database testing.

Develops and implement standardized analysis plans for data analysis and quality control of proteomic, metabolomics, and other large data sets from collaborations with PIs leading clinical and observational studies.

Develops software, creates query routines and builds relational databases to extract essential information from large data sets leading to biomarker discovery for cancer early detection and risk assessment.

Develops algorithms and applications for data preprocessing, peptide identification, protein assembly, and statistical analysis.

Applies and creates novel statistical and computational tools for analysis of large proteomic data sets from publicly available, commercial, or proprietary databases.

Designs and applies bioinformatics algorithms, unsupervised and supervised methods, univariate and multivariate regression analysis, etc. to enable the discovery of predictive and prognostic biomarkers and biomarker signatures utilizing preclinical and clinical data.

Collaborates with external vendors and partners to optimize and implement innovative informatics and analytics solutions to meet biomarker research needs.

Provides technical guidance to IT enabling the development and maintenance of a biomarker database integrating data from disparate high-throughput techniques and diverse information sources into a common framework.

Develop and maintenance of computer systems and databases used to organize and analyze large amounts of proteomics and other biological data.

Communication and Team Work :

Asks critical and insightful questions to drive decision making and persuasively conveying solutions to a broad range of team members.

Communicates with laboratory scientists, clinical researchers, and field experts extensively and understands their needs and contributes to the study designs of ongoing projects.

Works closely in a multidisciplinary team with scientists, clinician, and biostatistician to create platforms for processing and batabasing of high dimensional data for disease understanding and biomarker discovery.

EDUCATION

Required:

Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.

Preferred Experience

Six years experience of relevant research experience.

Research experience in proteomics.
