Research Associate - Sweet Potato Breeder - 2 Year Program Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for a Sweet Potato Breeder. You will be joining a highly-skilled research team, with oversight from an independent Board of Directors, engagement from an international Science Advisory Committee and collaboration with more than 160 global partners. Vineland’s goal is to enhance Canadian growers’ commercial success through results-oriented innovation. We are an independent, not-for-profit horticulture research organization funded in part by Growing Forward 2. Vineland has a mature sweet potato breeding program with established cooperation test sites across Canada. Reporting to the Research Scientist – Vegetable Breeder, the Sweet Potato Breeder will deliver germplasm, sweet potato varieties and traits to the horticulture sectors. It is expected that the products of our sweet potato breeding program will have significant commercial value in Canada and abroad. The position can be extended further by attracting continued funding. GENERAL OUTLINE OF POSITION: The sweet potato breeder will operate the existing sweet potato breeding program and conduct the field research required to support the program. The successful candidate will interact closely with other scientists in the Applied Genomics department, taking advantage of genomics, bioinformatics and biochemistry technology, and identify research and commercial opportunities in sweet potato breeding. Further, the sweet potato breeder will collaborate and interact with scientists in Production Systems and Consumer Insights to help support variety selection and production technology for sweet potato.
