Job Description:
The British Columbia Cancer Agency is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct scientific research in the area of cancer genomics specifically related to an ongoing effort to understand the aetiology of aggressive lymphoid cancers including diffuse large B-cell and mantle cell lymphomas. The successful applicant will analyze NGS data produced from clinical samples from cancer patients, namely RNA-seq, whole exome, whole genome, and circulating tumour DNA sequence data. This position demands a strong bioinformatics and genomics background. Detailed knowledge of cancer biology (particularly non-Hodgkin lymphomas) would be an asset. Familiarity with algorithms for inferring clonal structure of tumours from sequence data and network/pathway analysis methods is also desirable. Characteristics of the ideal candidate include strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, creativity and the ability to remain organized in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will report to Drs. Ryan Morin (Genome Sciences Centre, BCCA) and David Scott (Centre for Lymphoid Cancer, BCCA) and will interact with a diverse team of clinicians and research scientists at the BC Cancer Agency. - Use alignment and assembly-based methods to detect somatic alterations such as CNAs, SNVs, indels and structural alterations/fusion transcripts.
- Implement improved algorithms/pipelines for detection of somatic alterations in heterogeneous tumour samples and damaged DNA (FFPE, ctDNA)
- Infer novel driver genes and pathways using recurrence-based and selective-pressure based methodologies
- Resolve clonal frequency of mutations and clonal substructure of tumours
- Delineate clonal dynamics from serial tumour biopsies and ctDNA
- Determine significant changes to gene expression and splicing
- Leverage clinical metadata to identify predictive or prognostic signatures
