Job Description:
We are currently seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow with experience in cancer biology to undertake a project focusing in bioinformatic techniques. We are seeking a candidate with initial experience in handling large-scale genomic datasets, and who has some experience in script-writing and coding. The project would involve in-depth interrogation of murine data from in-vivo transgenic cancer models of paediatric tumours and specific cross-comparison with available human datasets. The project will focus on the role of particular gene-mutations in driving onset of paediatric solid tumours and will involve approximately 25% wet-bench work including handling of mouse models and tissues, and interpretation of preclinical therapeutic trials datasets using mutation-targeted cancer drugs. A significant portion of the work will deal with interpretation of sequencing, expression and copy-number data emerging from prospective sequencing/actionable medicine pilot studies. We envision this fellowship as an opportunity to gain further in-depth knowledge of specialized bioinformatics techniques and there is an opportunity to attend a formal external training course that could lead to formal training certification. In addition, the ICR has formal taught courses in bioinformatics and statistics, led by a senior and highly-qualified bioinformatics staff, and there will be opportunities to interact with postdoctoral fellows and PhD students, and clinicians working on cross-cutting projects within our laboratory. The appointed individual should have a wide range of expertise in or minimally initial exposure to computational approaches applicable to cancer medicine. The post holder will have strong communication skills and a demonstrable track record in project management. Applicants must have a PhD. Experience in analysing complex data sets is highly desireable, preferably from human studies in clinical oncology. Programming experience is an asset and a mathematical or statistical background would be a distinct advantage
