Do you have an advanced degree in Life Sciences and do you enjoy assessing literature? And do you have proven affinity with NLP/Machine Learning? We would like to meet you! Elsevier’s Operations produces various scientific databases such as Embase, PharmaPendium and Reaxys Medicinal Chemistry. Indexing and excerption of data adds value to these bibliographic and factual databases, such that a more efficient and consistent retrieval of the desired information is possible. As our Scientific Information Specialist you will become a product content specialist to ensure our customers find the information they are looking for! You will use your life-science knowledge to assess and guide the improvement of biological/pharmacological data extraction and indexing done manually by external suppliers or internally by automatic processes. You will apply your knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP)/ Machine Learning (ML) to build a bridge between stakeholders involved in application of NLP/ML and the Content Quality Management Department. In this context it is important to communicate efficiently with these stakeholders, and link product content and quality knowledge with development and application of NLP/ML methods. You will serve as the NLP/ML specialist within the Content Quality Management department. You are accurate and you therefore improve quality of the databases by evaluating the quality assessment of our indexing suppliers. You will translate this evaluation into continuous improvement for both manual and automatic indexing methodology. You will be part of an enthusiastic team based in Amsterdam. Your responsibilities: -Build a bridge between content quality knowledge and NLP/ML, both within the department and in the interaction with internal NLP groups. -Bring knowledge of NLP/ML into the department. -Actively participate in the development of new rules/guidelines for different scientific databases. -Actively participate in the development of new and more efficient quality measurement approach. What you should bring: -PhD in life sciences, pharmacy, pharmacology, (cell) biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry or MSc degree with relevant work experience in the field of life sciences or pharmacology. -Proven affinity with Natural Language Processing and/or Machine Learning is essential. -Experience in data extraction, text mining, semantic technologies and content enhancement tools is an advantage. -Working experience with standard scientific vocabularies, search engines, thesauri, and related entities is an advantage.
