Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Analyst/ Scientist manages and organizes large databases, and conducts statistical and genomic analysis. Uses software and other command line tools to gather, store, manipulate and analyzes research data. The Bioinformatics Analyst/ Scientist will work with a group of researchers/biologists on innovative genomic analyses of structural variation, epigenetics, gene expression, microRNA expression in an integrated environment combining experimental and bioinformatic approaches to human disease, specifically cancer. The individual will support research projects by delivering bioinformatics services for bio-medical data from cutting-edge genomic technologies Preferred: Three to four years of academic or industry experience preferred. Working knowledge with Unix/Linux systems administration is highly desirable, Shell usage and scripting knowledge is desirable. Working knowledge with public data bases such as TCGA, SRA is a plus. Detail understanding of wet lab techniques such as qPCR, digital PCR, Tissue-Microarray is a plus. Previous work experience in working with cancer data is a plus. Hours: 40 control hours. Required: -Master Degree and minimum of three years job-related experience. MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical. Expertise in NGS tools such as BWA, Samtools, Picard, GATK and software CLC Workbench, Partek. -Proficiency in any one of these languages Python, Perl, Java, C/C++, and basic level R programming. -Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Macro. Good working knowledge of current best practices in genetic variant discovery, CNV and validation methods. -Previous Lab experience working with next generation sequencing technologies is neededStrong written and verbal communicator, and good work ethic with emphasis on execution.
