Job Description:
The Computational Biology Group at PNNL is seeking a research scientist with expertise in host and pathogen biology, experimental generation and computational analysis of high throughput data, data integration in a systems biology context, and network approaches to analysis of systems biology data.

The Research Scientist will contribute to fundamental science research programs for computational modeling of infectious disease and other health science research areas. A focus on high-throughput data analysis to predict biological mechanisms is strongly desired. Hands-on experience with experimental lab techniques in high-throughput data generation (e.g. RNAseq, proteomics) and microbiology is desired. In addition, experience with mass-spectrometry assisted proteomics, data integration, and network inference methods is strongly desired. A solid understanding of biological principles combined with ability to apply and develop novel computational approaches is also strongly desired.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in and to develop robust research programs which integrate expertise in both host and pathogen biology, host-pathogen interactions, signaling pathways, and computational biology. The candidate will be expected to perform and assist in experimental protocols in the laboratory in support of these projects. The candidate will participate in research teams utilizing core laboratory capabilities, interface directly with funding clients, and facilitate close relationships with regional and national scientific institutions for collaborations and partnerships.

The Computational Biology group is an integral component of Biological Sciences research and maintains close ties with other research groups in areas of systems toxicology, integrated omics (metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics and genomics), microbiology, as well as applied mathematics, computer science and statistics. This position is located in Richland, WA.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years’ experience or a Master's degree with 0-2 years’ experience or a PhD.

•Expected to contribute professionally, building a professional reputation for technical expertise. Fully applying and interpreting standard theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Education/Experience: Master’s degree in the field of computational biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or engineering, or a related discipline with three years’ experience or PhD in the same fields.

•Experience in computational analysis and modeling of high-throughput data for systems biology projects

•Experience with laboratory techniques for high-throughput data analysis, microbiology, and or molecular biology

•Experience with programming languages (R, Python, and/or C)

•Depth and breadth of knowledge in host and pathogen biology and interactions

•Experience on highly collaborative interdisciplinary teams.

•Strong communication skills
