Job Description:
Roche is the world leader in in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) and tissue-based cancer diagnostics and a front-runner in diabetes management. Roche Sequencing Solutions is seeking a bioinformatics scientist to join our growing team of scientists and engineers. Roche is pioneering IVD solutions that use next generation sequencing (NGS) technology to provide more comprehensive diagnostics. A successful candidate will be working closely with experimentalists to analyze cutting edge sequencing data and developing bioinformatics pipelines for human genetic applications. Are you excited to use next generation sequencing technology to provide better diagnoses? Are you an adaptable scientist or engineer who can analyze data from multiple sequencing technologies, develop Bioinformatics workflows, and quickly prototype solutions? Do you thrive in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments? We want to hear from you! Who you are: Responsibilities: • Work with biologists to design studies that will optimize NGS technologies and bioinformatics analyses. • Develop and/or modify bioinformatics methods to analyze NGS data, including cutting edge NGS technologies. Demonstrate validity of methods through prototypes. • Validate and benchmark algorithms. • Design pipelines that are efficient, robust, and leverage multicore compute resources. • Devise and run computational tests to validate pipeline performance. • Collaborate across functional areas to develop custom solutions and customer-facing reports. You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point. Qualifications: • Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related discipline. • Experience working with NGS data and analyses required. • Demonstrated proficiency in Python or R required. Familiarity with Bioconductor packages a plus. • Demonstrated proficiency in C/C++ or Java required. • Familiarity with software development cycle (e.g. git, code review, testing) and workflow management systems (e.g. Snakemake, Nextflow). • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams. • Great communication, writing and presentation skills.
