Job Description:
Regular, Full-Time, Limited Term (up through January 15, 2019), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Information Technology Services (ITS), Cyberinfrastructure located on the Island of Oahu. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

DUTIES: Analyzes high-throughput next- and third-generation sequencing “omics” data, including data from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, and metagenomics experiments. Interacts closely with physician scientists and bioscience researchers to facilitate precision medicine development by interpreting vast amounts of “omics” and clinical data. Assists in the preparation of grant applications and peer-reviewed publications. Contributes to graduate student education and training. Contributes to data management and research methods development. PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

PhD, D.Sc. or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university in Information and Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biology, Statistics or related field.

EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of demonstrated experience with high-throughput data analysis, such as deep sequencing, microarray and/or metagenomics, as evidenced by publication record.

ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in one (1) or more scripting or programming languages, such as Python, Java, R, and/or MATLAB. Excellent oral and written communication. Excellent interpersonal skills.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with database development and novel methods development. Experience in UNIX-like operating systems and high-performance computing environments. Experience teaching at the graduate level.
