Job Description:
There is an opening for a postdoctoral research assistant to investigate the biomechanical regulation of chromatin remodelling and gene expression in human epidermal stem cells. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of biologists and engineers, and will employ next-generation epigenomic methods to characterise the effects of defined mechanical and biophysical cues on nuclear architecture and keratinocyte fate. Functional studies will also examine the impact of these responses on tissue homeostasis and repair.

The position will be based primarily within the laboratory of Dr. John Connelly in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, but will also involve close collaboration with Dr. Nuria Gavara’s group in the School of Engineering and Materials Science. The successful candidate will benefit from access to outstanding cell biology, genomics, imaging, and biophysics facilities and associated expertise across both schools.

We seek a creative and motivated scientist with experience in epigenetics, genomics, and/or bioinformatics as well as a Ph.D. in a related field. Additional experience in skin biology or biophysics would be advantageous; however, this project is an excellent opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge in cellular biomechanics and mechano-sensing.
