Job Description:
NorthShore University HealthSystem's Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doc Research Fellow to join their Center for Psychiatric Genetics with research being focused around Functional Genomics in Psychiatry. This is a full-time benefits-eligible position, based in the northern suburbs of Chicago, in Evanston, IL. This position is part of a newly NIH-funded 5-year project that will take functional genomics approaches to studying the functional variants that confer genetic susceptibility to schizophrenia in iPSC-derived neurons. Within the lab, the research focus will be to use patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and iPSC-derived neurons as a model to study molecular and neurobiological basis of schizophrenia and other brain disorders. Work will involve iPSC culture, neuron differentiation, open chromatin mapping, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, assaying functional effect of genetic perturbation on gene expression and cellular phenotypes. Computational work will include analyzing ATAC-seq (for open chromatin mapping) and RNA-seq data. Qualifications: Our ideal candidate will be able to perform both experimental and computational work with the assistance of other research associates/assistants. A focus on either lab or computation/bioinformatics would also be acceptable. For a candidate focusing on computation/bioinformatics, he/she is encouraged to develop novel computational approaches to understand the causal gene networks of brain disorders using relevant genomics and epigenomics datasets. For a candidate focusing on lab work, he/she is expected to be capable of learning necessary computation skills to analyze genomics datasets. Other position requirements include the following: -Doctoral degree (PhD or M.D., including those conferred outside of U.S.) in genomics, bioinformatics, neuroscience, molecular biology or computer science. -For a candidate focusing on computation/bioinformatics work, experience with analyzing next generation sequencing data is a plus; for a candidate focusing on wet-bench lab work, experience with iPSC culture or neuroscience is preferred. -A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals preferred. -Excellent communication skills. -The ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
