Job Description:
The Computational Bioinformatics Faculty at Sanford will provide support in computational analysis of or the logical and technical processes necessary for building databases and conducting analyses of phenome, metabolome, glycome, lipidome, inflamome, transcriptome, epigenome, and genome, as well as assist with or guide the integration of such with electronic medical record platforms. He or she will also have a proven track record of innovation in one or more these. The computational and database systems developed by the applicant will be used to gather, generate, and track patient data and develop medically actionable hypotheses. Familiarity with security and privacy requirements applicable for working with patient data in a medical environment and in the development of appropriate ethically and legally compliant policies is desirable.The successful candidate will lead the bioinformatics group at Sanford and be responsible for its budge and management as well as its clinical and research obligations. He or she provided startup funding appropriate to the agreed upon research program and will have full membership in Sanford Research and access to its infrastructure. The successful candidate will be eligible for academic appointment at South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota at a level appropriate for his or her academic credentials. He or she will report to the Imagenetics Research Director and the Medical Director of the diagnostic laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or M.D. is required. At least 6 years experience in bioinformatics or a closely related field is required and at least 2 of those years must have been in a managerial/leadership position. Demonstrated record of budget management and mentoring is required. Experience in the analysis of high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data, including alignment, quality measurements, variant calling, variant annotation, variant prioritization, incidental findings reporting, and transcript quantification is required. Facility with collection of the human phenome and application of it to analysis of human sequence data is required. Computational experience could include demonstrated database management, process management, or next generation sequence analysis. Also, experience with electronic medical record (EMR) APIs and interfaces and movement of data out of and into EMRs is highly desirable. Experience programing in Python, Perl, R, and Java desirable. Experience with the integration and management of multiple data sources, workflows and enabling integrated management of and reporting on those data and processes through graphical user interfaces is desirable. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in database vitalization, genetic/epigenetic analyses and medical and/or research informatics experience. Essential to the applicants successful fulfillment of this role is a documented track record of fiscal, managerial, academic and technical leadership and productivity; measures will include publications and independent funding.
