This position will be based at AbbVie's site in Redwood City, CA and provide local support of scientific research while reporting into the larger Genomics & Translational Informatics Group based in Lake County, IL. The Data Solution Department within the Information Research (IR) Division is building the next generation of big biology data management and decision support tools and services to optimize the efficiency and efficacy of research and development at AbbVie. Examples of applications/topics supported include: microarray data analysis, drug target and compound assessment/mining, competitive landscapes, custom data visualization projects and internal and external data integration, knowledge ecosystem design and implementation, etc. We have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Biology Data Scientist I or II (depending on experience). The ideal candidate will have strong background in computational biology/bioinformatics with both scripting and data manipulation/visualization skills. Key Responsibilities: *Collaborative Design – you should find it inspiring to work with a wide variety of colleagues (e.g., biology, chemistry, business); understand their needs and then propose and build solutions. *Build – through your own efforts or by working with software engineers develop custom software solutions/processes that contribute to and help foster the growing AbbVie data integration environment. *Presentation – use your strong computational and data visualization skills to bring together disparate data types in compelling visualization packages that provide end users with the ability to see both ‘the landscape’ and details leading to improved decision-making. *Adaptability – given our diverse mission you should be able to move fluidly between different project responsibilities. *Breadth – as a talented and motivated Biology Data Scientist you can contribute to a wide variety of missions related to enhancing drug discovery. Key Responsibilities: -Identify relevant internal and external data and knowledge resources and propose integration mechanisms and serve as a key data scientist for oncology data integration. -Collaborate with local informatics scientists and translational researchers to identify and understand their analytical needs and translate that into solution designs. -Collaborate with software engineers or identify appropriate external vendors to build desired solutions. -Identify data analytics needs across different research groups and generate data analysis strategies that can help streamline internal project specific data analysis. -Be abreast with most current systems analysis methodology and algorithms and introduce them in-house when appropriate. -Present analytical projects and informatics systems in front of scientific and technical audiences.

Qualifications
Requirements: -MS or Ph.D. degree in biological sciences or quantitative sciences (mathematics, physics, statistics or computer science) with a strong biological background.1-3 years post-doctoral or pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry experience (2-4 years for MS degree). -Expert in analyzing genetics and genomics data using graph analytics and machine learning techniques. -Working knowledge of relevant biological networks, knowledgebase and ontologies. -Hands on experience in biological data and knowledge integration. Oncology focus is a plus, but not required. Comfortable in a Linux computing environment (Unix shell scripting, Git) -Proficient with statistical and programing languages (R, Shiny, Python, JavaScript). Experience with SQL and noSQL database query languages is a plus. -A self-motivated learner and thinker with a hands-on approach. -An analytical mind with outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
