Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:

-Leads the work of co-workers providing effective communication,direction, guidance and resources as appropriate.

-Provides leadership for bioinformatics projects.

-Leads the design and development effots of major bioinformatics-relatedprogramming projects.

-Writes advanced scripts to access databases and analyze data.

-Leads the effort for preparation and teaching of courses and/ordemonstrations on the use of bioinformatics tools.

-Directs and guides DNA, RNA and protein sequence database searches andthe computational analysis of resulting data.

-Provides workflow direction to subordinates and serves as a mentor tojunior staff.

-Interprets complex biological information.

-Performs tasks to reduce andconsolidate output from software.

-Prepares data for utilization by otherscientists.

-Performs all other duties as assigned.

General Responsibilities :

-Performs, as directed, safety compliance and uses Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE), as needed.

-Participates in Quality Assessment (QA) and Quality Improvement(QI) programs, as directed.

-Ensures compliance with Joint Commission on and all other Federal, Stateand Regulatory Agencies.

-Responds promptly and sincerely to customer's needs, requests andconcerns via all communicationforms using easily understood language and refraining from using inappropriatelanguage and non-verbal gestures.

-Maintains positive working relationships as a team player through problemsolving issues, speaking positively about others, listening attentivelyand observing the Patient Bill of Rights and Confidentiality.

-Increases customer service knowledge, skill and ability by participatingin department and center-widespecific programs.

-Incorporates National Jewish's identity (Science Transforming Life ) into daily functions.

Speaks positively about the center, providescustomers with prompt service, maintains a clean and safe workingenvironment, dresses appropriately based upon National Jewish safetystandards, and departmental policies and wears an ID badge visibly.Knowledge and SkillsAdvances skills using bioinformatics to solve biologically importantquestions.

Advanced in high-throughput data analysis and familiarity withwidely used genomic databases and software. Advanced skills in utilityprogramming (C Shell, Perl, BioPerl, JAVA, and other languages) ina Linux environment, as well as designing, developing, and programmingdatabases (Oracle, MySQL).

Must be able to work independently and haveadvanced problem solving skills.

Must have excellent interpersonal,verbal, anCertification and LicensureNoneEducationMasters degree in computer science and/or life sciences required.

PhD inBioinformatics, computer science and/or life sciences is preferred.Work ExperienceA minimum of five (5) years of recent and related experience required.- or - Any equivalent combination of Education and/or ExperienceWorking ConditionsPosition is an office environment.

Frequent requirements may include:sitting for extended periods, entering and manipulating data on aworkstation computer and participating in team/executive meetings.Approximately 75% of daily responsibilities will be working both one-on-oneand in teams with other personnel and extended one-on-one contact in a quietenvironment where hearing and listening is paramount.

Must possess theability to communicate by observation, verbal, written and listening;standing; walking; climbing stairs; stooping to remove/replacefiles; good hand-eye coordination; lifting, pulling, pushing, andupper body twisting while handling supplies and equipment; sitting whilecompleting paperwork; using keyboard for PC and word processing needs.
