Job Description:
The position will be within the Systems Biology Section in the Department of Microbial Sciences, part of the School of Biosciences and Medicine in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. We are atop 10 UK University in the London area, elected as University of the year 2016 by the Times University Guide. Having a strong record in interdisciplinary research teams, the Faculty is committed to providing an open and creative research environment that enables groundbreaking discoveries for health and society. Areas of research strength within the School include clinical medicine and ageing, bacteriology, nutritional sciences, oncology, molecular & synthetic biology, immunology and virology.

The ideal candidate will have a background in a theoretical discipline, such as mathematics, physics, computational science, bioinformatics and/or engineering, and a strong research focus on developing and applying theoretical approaches to further understanding of biological systems at the molecular level (e.g. gene/metabolic networks). Research interests that will increase the level of collaboration within the School and across the three other Schools (Health Sciences; Veterinary Medicine; and Psychology) within the Faculty, as well as at the national and international level are highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to evidence an outstanding track record of achievement in scholarship and research, and have a clear strategy to attract and secure research funding. The candidate will also be required to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
