Job Description:
Basic Purpose:

In support of genomics research and method development:

Perform and plan laboratory procedures by following proscribed or developmental processes to achieve results that meet accreditation and policy requirements. Serve as project leader and main technical resource for new method and service offerings in the laboratory. Serve as a subject matter expert for internal and external customers. Interpretation and analysis of test data.

Principal Accountabilities:

Serve as project lead and main technical resource for genomics research in the area of molecular /genomics for the Applied Research Center (ARC) laboratory. The methods will be in support of all NSF programs serviced by the ARC and additional NSF business needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Defining project objectives;

2. Maintaining proper documentation for the research and development phase;

3. SOP development;

4. Project communication;

5. Report generation.

-Prioritize and internalize necessary molecular and bioinformatics tools to provide services to NSF clientele in the area of genomics.

-Perform the required molecular and bioinformatics assays in support of contracted research projects.

-Actively network with other subject matter experts and establish working relationships with university researchers and R&D groups.

-Assist with grant writing, grant submissions and securing funding on an annual basis to support the ARC Genomics program.

-Participate in presenting results of research at technical conferences and to grant review panels.

-Act as primary author on publications submitted to peer reviewed journals.

-Assist the ARC Business Development Manager to market the molecular capabilities of the ARC laboratory, including establishing a test offerings list, developing test pricing and turnaround times, and interacting with potential clients to serve as a technical resource during the sales process.

-Meet turnaround time commitments and initiate new procedures to increase efficiency.

-Participate in cross-training all levels of laboratory staff in lab policies, techniques, and methods.

-Assure adherence to all laboratory and NSF policies and procedures relating to quality assurance, sample handling, data/records/archival and health and safety.

-Be proactive in the resolution and prevention of laboratory problems and potential delays. This may involve active research, test design/modification, and/or communication to help avoid recurrence.

-Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

-Minimum of a bachelors degree in microbiology, biological sciences, life sciences, biotechnology, bioinformatics, genetics, computer science or molecular biology.

-Minimum of four years of specific laboratory and/or testing experience in Next Gen Sequencing, Whole Genome Sequencing, Bioinformatics, and life science.

-Minimum of four years experience with laboratory documentation and quality procedures.

-Deep expertise with Bioinformatics tools and where to source them from

-Demonstrated experience with public speaking and presentation of scientific research at scientific conferences.

-Published a minimum of 3 peer reviewed papers, serving as primary author.

-Demonstrated experience with method development/validation and project management.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Advanced degree in microbiology, biological sciences, life sciences, biotechnology, bioinformatics, genetics, computer science or molecular biology.

-One (1) to two (2) years’ experience of post-doctoral research.

-Experience serving as Principal Investigator on one or more grants.

-Established track record of securing federal funding.

-Established collaborative research network with university public health schools.

-Eight years specific laboratory and/or testing experience in Next Gen Sequencing, Whole Genome Sequencing, Bioinformatics, and life science.

-Eight years of experience with accredited laboratory documentation and quality procedures.
