Job Description:
UCLA Technology Center for Genomics & Bioinformatics (UCLA TCGB) seeks a talented and highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to carry out genomic data analysis and manage server and big data. The SRA III will serve as the primary bioinformatician for the lab and be responsible for data analyses include next-generation sequencing (Ion Torrent, Miseq, Hiseq2500 and HiSeq3000) and microarray data. The incumbent will also perform wet lab job as needed. The incumbent will work in coordination with core Director in developing and conducting new analytical pipelines. Under general supervision of the director and the assistant director of Clinical Microarray Core, perform independently a wide variety of technical procedures in the Clinical Microarray Core section of the Dept. Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Job Qualifications: PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology or similar highly preferred. Alternately, a PhD in molecular biology combined with a very strong record of high-throughput data analysis, supported by publication in this area. Broad experience with data generated by high-throughput molecular assays including microarrays and next-generation sequencing, etc. A demonstrated understanding of the statistical principles behind current best practices in bioinformatics. Strong experience in the use of a high-level programming language such as R, MATLAB, Python or Perl for complex data analysis. Strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills. In particular, a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with scientific and thought leaders who specialize in areas other than bioinformatics, biostatistics, etc.
