Job Description:
The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP) is seeking a Web Applications Developer to work as part of a team in building and deploying a web-based data visualization platform to permit end-users to interrogate next generation sequencing data. Candidate will interact with end users and lab members to define and clarify business and technical requirements. Due to the interdisciplinary environment at the MCTP, we seek an applicant with good communication skills and experience working as part of a team. Responsibilities The selected candidate will be responsible for design, development, support, deployment, and maintenance of web-based applications in a research laboratory setting. As we are dealing with cutting edge technologies and clinical information, the applicant must create robust software that can accommodate frequent feature requests and modifications in a timely fashion. We are constantly seeking ways to improve data visualization and optimize software efficiency in order to handle the rapidly expanding datasets in the lab. Required Qualifications: -Experience developing client-side web applications in javascript, including an understanding of the widely-used javascript frameworks. -Understanding of database programming. -Excellent communication skills and the ability to accommodate frequent feature requests and design modifications. -Experience with data visualization, especially with javascript visualization libraries (e.g., D3). -Applicants will be required to demonstrate any web development projects they may have worked on previously. -Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or IT; and 3 years of development experience in web-based languages. Desired Qualifications: Experience in bioinformatics, biology or life sciences will be advantageous. Experience with NGS data desired. Most importantly, we seek applicants with experience developing rich web applications and have expertise in the usability and graphic arts of web design.

MCTP employs genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatics approaches on clinical biospecimens to identify novel cancer biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The mission of the Center is to facilitate the discovery, validation, and implementation of candidate target genes/proteins in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy. The Center employs a multi-disciplinary approach, engaging talent from diverse disciplines ranging from medicine, pathology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, engineering, cytogenetics, and molecular therapeutics.
