Job Description:
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is currently seeking a College Intern for the Meetings & Courses department. The internship is a paid, hourly position, with a flexible schedule during the summer months and possibility of extension into the autumn term. The intern will work on a project designed to ensure that meetings, conferences, and symposia in the biological and biomedical sciences are gender-representative of their respective subfields. The project involves a searchable list of prominent women in biology that will be used by a variety of scientific conference organizations worldwide, including CSHL.

Responsibilities include:

• Writing SQL scripts, both directly to a database server and via an intermediate language like PHP

• Implementing enhancements to an existing web interface using Adobe Dreamweaver and/or direct HTML coding The intern will be jointly mentored on the project by Meetings & Courses and the Women in Science & Engineering (WiSE) initiative.

Position Requirements:

Education:

College student majoring in computational biology, computer science, computer engineering, or a similar discipline

Experience:

Prior experience and comfort with at least one programming language is essential, though the language does not need to be SQL, PHP, or HTML

Other requirements: Candidates with experience in web design and/or GitHub will be preferred
