Job Description:
The New York Genome Center is looking for a highly motivated, independent, highly- experienced individual with strong experience in Next Generation Sequencing to improve NYGC’s sequencing operations. The Process Engineer will be responsible for leading, managing and overseeing a new organizational agenda, spanning across NYGC’s sequencing operations teams to improve all facets of our operations: efficiency, cost, throughput and turn- around time for wet-lab and informatics functions. Responsible for optimizing processes, troubleshooting lab methods, amending and developing protocols, bringing in new technologies and improving instrumentation in a rapidly growing sequencing facility. This role will interact closely with most teams at NYGC, especially our laboratories (production and clinical), project management, research computing, computational biology and software engineering, as well as the President/Chief Operating Officer.

Job Responsibilities:

-Responsible for leading the entire process-engineering effort at NYGC; requirements definition, design, development, optimization, troubleshooting, verification, validation, and transfer of automated processes, systems and workflows for NGS and analysis.

-Ensure that all methods, protocols, work practices, SOPs, analysis and other processes across the entire sequencing and informatics groups are efficient, optimized for cost- savings, and are an optimal allocation of resources.

-Evaluate current sequencing operation and data analysis procedures for optimization and improvement:

o Work with internal stakeholders to encourage and gather feedback and suggestions, and drive the establishment of process requirements.

o Present recommendations for changes, establish realistic timelines for execution, and communicate with partners.

o Lead agile implementation of changes, and ongoing evaluation, incorporating input from other team members efficiently and effectively. Work with diverse partners to ensure that developed processes are robust, scalable and meet operational requirements.

o Train and mentor employees to improve their understanding of process optimization and best working practices. -Work with Project Management and other teams to ensure our internal processes, systems and SOPs enable project deadlines to be achieved, and to reduce turn-around times, especially for clinical samples.

-Work in cross-functional teams to provide troubleshooting expertise on developed processes.

-Evaluate new methods, equipment and technologies to bring to the Center as needed, present recommendations to internal stakeholders, and lead or assist with implementation.

-Drive forwards internal priorities cross-functionally to ensure swift implementation Including:

o Work closely with the bioinformatics group to implement improved methods for QC, rapid analysis, fast annotation, and other developments that arise.

o Work closely with the Innovation group and the Methods Development team to transition new technologies into the production lab.

-Ensure all regulatory requirements are appropriately adhered to.
