Job Description:
The Web Application Developer Intern works on the Bioinformatics Team to create data-driven web applications to communicate and deliver genomics data to scientists, customers, and the general public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -Work on the Bioinformatics Team to create data-driven web applications in the field of genomics . -Coordinate with scientists to develop interactive web-based data visualizations to answer specific research questions. -Maintain revision control and documentation as part of a team of developers and data scientists. Education And Experience: -A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related discipline. -Competent in full stack web development in a data-driven context using web frameworks. -Experience creating interactive visualizations embedded into websites. -Familiar with Linux/Unix operating systems. -Ability to simultaneously manage and execute multiple projects. -Willingness to follow best-practices for code documentation and revision control. Experience: -Required: Ability to program competently in Python and employ web frameworks such as Django and Flask. Ability to develop and design web front-ends using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. -Strongly preferred: Experience with SQL (MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) Databases. Experience with D3.js and other libraries for interactive data visualization. -Preferred: Familiarity with Amazon Web Services EC2 and S3, Jenkins, and git. Familiarity with statistics and R. Some background in basic biology and previous experience with bioinformatics and genomics.
