Original Invitation: You are invited to an all-day genomics symposium with talks from leaders in genomics research and technology. After the symposium we will be hosting an open house at our new state of the art sequencing facility.
The Genomics and Bioinformatics Service (TxGen), part of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, celebrates its 10th year of service to the Texas A&M community, Texas, and scientists around the world with the opening of our new sequencing and bioinformatics facility in the Texas A&M West Campus Research Park.
Both PerkinElmer and Illumina have provided significant support to this new facility, along with Pacific BioSciences and Oxford Nanopore. During the symposium you will hear from top scientists from these companies, as well as academic scientist from across TAMU. The entire Illumina Inc. Agrigenomic team will be with us. They are seeking applications to the Illumina 2020 Agricultural Greater Good Initiative http://bit.ly/2W1Qlvr
For those traveling from out of town, the George Hotel and Calvary Court Hotel are excellent locations.

Background:
The Texas A&M AgriLife Genomics and Bioinformatics Service was established through a directive to radically improve genomic research across AgriLife, COALS, and the Texas A&M University System, addressing a central and pressing need for access to the latest genomic technologies, and world-class laboratory and bioinformatics expertise.
To meet these ambitious goals, AgriLife Research brought together a team of genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular scientists to meet the next generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics needs of the TAMU system and broader scientific community. Over the last 10 years, TxGen has completed over 2500 projects and worked with over 1000 scientists from 35 countries, growing to be one of the leading agrigenomic sequencing facilities in the world as recognized by both Illumina and PerkinElmer.
The seasoned team of senior scientists have worked with faculty across the Texas A&M System, providing sequencing and bioinformatics support for grants dedicated to genomic research totaling over $135 million. TxGen’s annual operating budget of $4 million comes primarily from research grants and other collaborative research projects. Over the last ten years the lab has seen six major jumps in sequencing technology and capacity. As of today, TxGen has the capacity to process over 100,000 samples per year and generate enough data to sequence over 18,000 human genomes at a cost well below most commercial and academic facilities.
Industry Support
PerkinElmer is supporting the growing field of agrigenomics through a sponsored collaboration of the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Genomics and Bioinformatics Services Lab. Additionally, in April of 2018, TxGen was honored by being designated as a PerkinElmer’s Center of Excellence.
