Palace Gate Corporation is currently seeking a Bioinformatician for our premier client. This is a fulltime opportunity in Chicago, IL.
Job Description
The Bioinformatician will design and implement bioinformatics services and develop pipelines for this project, including supporting high-throughput genomic technologies. This may include developing and implementing software methodologies and computational tools as needed, keeping abreast of industry trends and new technologies, and recommending potential solutions based on the latest technical developments. The Bioinformatician may also devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems and work at a high technical level in all phases of bioinformatics support activities. The principal contribution in this role is to provide leadership in applying principles and knowledge relevant to research projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform senior-level lab and/or research related duties and tasks; leads in research projects
- Oversees implementation of project, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology
- Oversees data collection, evaluation and analysis
- Designs and manages databases
- Writes reports, articles and manuscripts
- Presents research findings at meetings and conferences, as well as to funding agencies
- Trains and oversees the work of research support personnel
- May manage other administrative aspects of the research project, including supervising research support personnel, tracking project expenditures, participating in funding negotiations, and assisting with grant and manuscript preparation
- May include the following laboratory duties: independently perform complex technical duties; recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures to correct problems; monitoring and troubleshooting equipment; overseeing the ordering of supplies and maintenance of laboratory inventory; and ensuring laboratory compliance with all safety requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience
- Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, or related field required
- 2+ yeas of experience in the field of bioinformatics
- Experience in the bioinformatics of Next Generation sequencing technologies
- Experience providing bioinformatics services or other service roles preferred.
- Experience in project management preferred.Personal Attributes

- Basic knowledge of molecular biology
- Basic knowledge of statistics
- Analytical, Problem-solving, Attention to detail, and Organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Advanced knowledge of programming and/or scripting languages such as Perl or C/C++
- Experience using languages such as Java, SQL, XML, with C++, Perl, PHP, and/or JavaScript
- Familiarity with Linux and/or UNIX
- Knowledge of HIPAA policies
- Experience teaching bioinformatics to non-bioinformaticians
