Job Description:

The Department of Physics invites applications for an assistant professor position in experimental biological physics starting in September 2015. The University has strong interdisciplinary programs in biophysics, structural biology and bioengineering. We are interested in researchers using experimental approaches to study the physics of living systems including, but not limited to, cell mechanics, systems biology, or regulatory networks and nonlinear dynamics in biological systems. The successful candidate will complement existing research in nanoscience, spectroscopy, molecular and cell biophysics (more at http://www.physics.buffalo.edu/biophysics). The University’s extensive infrastructure includes the UB Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics, the Center for Computational Research, a 5,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art clean room facility, and advanced microscopy and imaging facilities.
The Biological Physics group regularly collaborates with Roswell Park Cancer Research Institute, Hauptman Woodward Medical Research Institute and the UB Medical School. Applicants should have a PhD in the physical sciences, postdoctoral experience and a strong record of publications in professional journals; show promise of initiating and sustaining creative research and of obtaining external funding; have excellent communication skills; and have evidence of teaching ability such as prior teaching experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience, and competitive start-up funding will be available.
