Job Description:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide installation, customization, maintenance and expert technical support for system software and utilities
  • Provide system administration and computer support for the shared resource lab.
  • Provide software and hardware maintenance and installation for the various computer systems in the department.
  • Develop techniques to maximize the effectiveness of hardware installation to ensure smooth operation
  • Database development and software design
  • Develop web-based tools to access data contained in databases maintained by the department
  • Develop software tools to automate the transfer of data from internal databases
  • Develop custom software to assist users in data analysis to present information for publication and grant submissions
  • Web development
  • Assist with design and maintenance of web-based resources including web pages
  • Develop web pages for online submission of sample information and handling
  • Assist with training and educational support to users of shared resource lab
  • Assist with developing manuals and detailed documentation for training sessions
  • Assist with monthly training to the research users on the various informatic and analysis of software packages supported by the department.
  • Assist with coordinating specialized training sessions including external speakers
  • Actively identify and participate in training, education and development activities to improve own knowledge and performance to sustain and enhance professional development
  • Keep up-to-date on software systems, operation procedures, and technological developments in systems and programming
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and < 1 year experience

  • Sensory:
    • Occasional: Vision: Clarity of near vision at 20 inches or less and far vision at 20 feet or more with depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision.
    • Frequent: Noise: May include exposure to occupational noise levels which equal or exceed an 8-hr time-weighted average of 85 decibels, requiring enrollment in VUMC's Hearing Conservation Program which includes training, use of hearing protection, and periodic audiometry.
    • Continuous: Communication: Expressing or exchanging written/verbal/electronic information.
