Functions as lead computer system administrator for Texas A&M AgriLife Genomics & Bioinformatics Services,maintains servers, software and delivering data to clients. Develop and run data processing pipelines for high-Throughput DNA sequencing for clients. Perform basic bioinformatics analyses for client and internal laboratory staff. Responsible for following and insuring unit compliance with all AgriLife/TAMUS technology policies and serving as unit representative to AgriLife Information Technology unit.
Other duties as required.
Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of experience may substitute for one year of education.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering Technology or related field.
Five years of system administration experience.
Two or more years of unix/linux system and infrastructure administration experience in a research environment, including experience with web service stacks such as Apache/MySQL/PHP.

Highly versed in Linux/Unix administration and best practices. Knowledge of maintaining, updating, configuring and administering hardware and software for Linux/Unix computer systems. Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Perl or Python). Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Familiarity with Texas A&M AgriLife or TAMUS computer policies. Experience with next generation sequencing (NGS), managing large DNA/RNA data sets, and performing computational jobs and algorithms used in Bioinformatics or NGS pipeline.
