Job Description:
The Associate Computational Biologist will work with a multi-disciplinary group to perform data analysis and also to develop new state-of-the-art analysis methods, computational algorithms and software tools to address current challenges in biomedical research.

This position will also work as a member of the team that develops Jupyter Notebooks, a software environment developed to allow researchers to easily perform integrative genomic analyses that require the navigation and use of multiple tools. A major component of the Jupyter Notebooks project is a library of analysis “recipes,” online vignettes that demonstrate how to combine Jupyter Notebooks tools to perform steps in integrative analysis workflows. By building an analytic “cookbook” of cross-tool recipes, the team aims to commoditize important research tasks. The incumbent will develop, test, and document Jupyter Notebooks recipes, and will train others on the programs and software as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Theoretical knowledge and/or Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences or other relevant scientific discipline and/or combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of computational methods and approaches, including prior experience with algorithms, data analysis, applied mathematics, probability and statistics.
  • Experience programming/scripting skills using scientific languages and computing/statistical packages (e.g., R or MATLAB), and general scripting programming languages (e.g., Python or Perl).
  • Must be able to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team of biologists, medical researchers, computational biologists, and software developers.
  • Must be able to deal with a rapidly changing and high-demand environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to manage a large volume of work efficiently and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, and track projects and coordinate complex activities requiring a high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with a variety of bioinformatics tools/applications and genomic databases.
  • Experience working in a Unix environment.

Special conditions:

Must be able to work outside normal hours to meet project deadlines. Background check clearance required prior to hire.
