We are looking for a proactive and motivated Advanced Research Assistant to join the Barosso Faculty.
The applicant's role will be to provide technical research support for Staff Scientists, Post docs, and PhD students in the group, and on an adhoc collaborative basis to work with/support other human genetic teams in molecular biology experiments. The work will vary from generation of transgenic animals, animal handling, molecular biology, cell culture, processing of specimens for histology, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy.
The role holder will also be the local Health and Safety coordinator/ representative for the team and workstation assessor (DSeasy).
Essential Skills
Postgraduate qualification in Biological Sciences and/or equivalent significant experience in a relevant area Understanding and significant previous experience in molecular biology techniques: RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, sequence analysis, DNA cloning, construct design and assembly Good understanding of laboratory Health and Safety issues Adaptability to changing priorities & workloads, and learning new skills Good manual dexterity & attention to detail High level of computer literacy Good communication skillsIdeal Skills
Experience working with laboratory mice or willingness to learn and obtain personal licence Experience in microscopy, tissue dissection, processing, and histology Experience of writing risk assessments Experience using cell culture techniquesOther information
