The Department of Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences is looking for a highly motivated bioinformatician / computational biologist to contribute to its Predictive Safety and Translational Safety Programs for toxicity screening and hazard identification in preclinical drug development.
This person will develop and utilize a variety of analytical approaches and computational tools to help integrate and analyze high volume ‘omics data sets, including next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, and in vitro assay data.
In this position, the individual is expected to lead or proactively support selected projects. They will be responsible for enhancing in-house bioinformatics tools and databases and developing new methodologies for complex data analysis and visualization. Integration, management, and visualization of all types of ‘omics and genetics data are anticipated to be a substantial component of this job and the employee is expected to provide leadership and expertise in these areas.
- Doctorate degree
OR
- Master's degree & 5 years of scientific experience
OR
- Bachelor's degree & 7 years of scientific experience
• A PhD in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or related fields with some working experience in biomedical environment.
• A strong knowledge in bioinformatics, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and relational databases. • Proven track record of integrating and analyzing various types of large-scale biomedical data as well as ‘omics, in particular, next-generation sequencing data.
• Ability to translate biological questions into computational work streams and the ability to translate the outcome of computational processes into biologically meaningful messages.
• Skills in algorithm development
• Proficiency in R. Other high level scripting languages such Matlab or S .
• Software engineering experience in a team environment. xD;
• Strong written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, independence and leadership.
• Prior experience of drug discovery and development process and knowledge of technology platforms.
