Job Description:
The Bioinformatics Analyst/Developer Senior will determine, with minimal supervision, best methods of bioinformatics and biostatistics analysis for a variety of genomics, proteomics, and related analyses. The analyst will develop analysis pipelines to accomplish standard and custom analyses. The analyst will work with other members of the Core and Core customers on grant funded and recharge-based projects to insure that high quality, reproducible results are produced to meet the needs of the research community.

Responsibilities*

Build pipelines and workflows to automate reproducible analysis methods after they have been established, to maximize productivity of the Core. Determine optimal methods of bioinformatics and biostatistics analysis for a variety of genomics, proteomics, and pathways analyses; specifically focusing on next-generation sequencing along with related assembly, alignment and annotation methods.

Using knowledge of the biological problem and computational methods:

  • Creatively design an analytical solution
  • Perform analysis and interpret the results
  • Prepare summary presentations of findings (graphs, tables, reports) suitable for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Regularly communicate with Core customers to assist them in understanding their data, the analysis methods used, and the most appropriate ways of using results in their research.
  • Regularly review bioinformatics literature, learn new methods and advance skills and techniques in bioinformatics.
Required Qualifications*
  • Master’s of Science in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or related field A minimum of 5 years experience in bioinformatics development/analysis, preferably working with a broad range of researchers across a range of phenotypes and data types.
  • Advanced understanding of multiple scientific areas characteristic of bioinformatics (e.g. molecular/cell biology, genetics/genomics, computer science, data modeling/statistics).
  • Proficiency with Linux, scripting and programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, R).
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics resources as well as gene and protein sequence analysis tools for assembly, alignment, annotation, and data visualization.
Desired Qualifications*
  • PhD is preferred.
  • R programming and machine learning experience are highly desirable.
  • Two years of cancer genomics research experience is desired.
