Job Description:
This position works with the bioinformatics team in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in the College of Medicine to create metabolic models for bacterial genomes. The position also assists with the development of computational methods for rapidly calculating the pan- and core-genomes of a species, based on K-mer analysis. Develops, evaluates, and implements innovative informatics systems to solve complex healthcare and biomedical research issues. Applies creativity in adopting proven technologies, platforms, and architectures to new problems. Takes direction in developing cutting edge technologies, platforms, and architectures. Tests, implements, and performs upgrades to keep applications running smoothly. Performs application maintenance and troubleshooting and provides custom report writing. Requires creativity, strong communication skills, collaboration with other levels of staff and faculty, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages: C, C++, C#, Python.
  • Experience with one or more web-based programming languages such as Perl or modern Java Script.
  • Experience in one or more relational databases such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix or PostgreSQL.
  • Additional requirements include a working knowledge of .NET programming languages, t-SQL and MS SQL database management system, and the Linux software environment.
  • Ability to read and write effectively.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or another discipline (with software development background).
