Description of Work UnitThe Department of Computer Science at Colorado State University has over 750 undergraduate majors and 190 graduate students in Master's and Ph.D. programs. The department has 22 tenure-track faculty with strong research programs in artificial intelligence, big data, bioinformatics, computer vision, human-computer interaction, networks, parallel and distributed computing, security, and software engineering. Colorado State University is a Carnegie Research I institution located in Fort Collins, 60 miles north of Denver, against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Position SummaryThe Department of Computer Science at Colorado State University (CSU) solicits applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor beginning fall 2017; exceptional candidates at the level of Associate Professor will also be considered. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related area and demonstrate potential for excellence in research, teaching and service.
Teaching:
Teaching 8 to 16 credit hours per year in Computer Science. Courses to be taught include some from the lower division: CS 163 Foundations in Programming through CS 253 Problem Solving with C++ and from the upper division CS 320 Algorithms through CS 370 Operating Systems and CS 410 Computer Graphics through CS 475 Parallel Programming, and graduate courses in an area of specialization.
Research:
Research Position A: This faculty member would perform research in the domain of data science, machine learning/intelligence, bioinformatics, computational biology, and be able to partner with other faculty at Colorado State University who use, interact with or analyze large volumes of data.
Research Position B: This faculty member would perform research in Computer Science and related areas such as human centered computing, core computer science (architecture, languages, theory, algorithms), cyber security and privacy, robotics, scientific computing and testing.
Service and Outreach:
There will be many opportunities to interact with companies with an interest in Computer Science, Software Development and Data Analytics. The Department of Computer Science is also actively engaged in efforts to promote diversity and inclusion; there will also be opportunities for new faculty to provide related service.
Required Job Qualifications
- Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field by start of the appointment.
- Applicant's research expertise in a relevant area.
- Ability to advance the department's commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching and outreach with relevant programs, goals and activities.
