The Computer Science and Biology Departments at Xavier University of Louisiana invite applications for a tenure-track position focusing on bioinformatics beginning August 2017. A Ph.D. is required; teaching experience, postdoctoral experience and/or experience with curriculum development are preferred. Rank and salary is commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities for this faculty position include teaching all levels of undergraduate computer science and biology courses; maintaining professional scholarship; advising students; proactive assessment; participating in the life of the university and collaborating with faculty members. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence; have a desire to engage in superior teaching and undergraduate student research.
Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier is Catholic and historically Black. Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. This preparation takes place in a diverse learning and teaching environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.
The position will be housed in the Computer Science Department. This department has three tenured faculty members and fifty students in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and dual-degree Computer Engineering majors. Teaching responsibilities will be shared in the Biology Department, which has 23 faculty and more than 800 undergraduate majors.
