Position: Assistant Professor of Biology
Stetson University seeks a molecular geneticist for a tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor. This is a full time, 9-month position, beginning in August 2017.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in genetics with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates and a record of scholarly publication. Acceptable specializations include genomics, bioinformatics, epigenetics, cell and molecular biology. We seek a dedicated teacher-scholar who will be an excellent teacher, engaged undergraduate research mentor, and productive scholar. Postdoctoral experience is strongly recommended but not required. Candidates should show a strong commitment to innovative teaching and advising. We are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to improving access to higher education for students from underserved populations in the sciences.
Responsibilities: The teacher-scholar model at Stetson requires that tenure-track faculty teach three courses each semester complemented with quality scholarship and service. Primary teaching responsibilities include an upper-division genetics course and associated lab sections, an introductory biology course, and mentoring of capstone senior research projects. The combined teaching load is equivalent to three course units per semester which typically ranges from 9 to 12 contact hours. Other courses will be based on the candidate's expertise, and may include new or existing upper-division biology and/or General Education courses. Candidates will be expected to pursue a vigorous program of research involving undergraduates. All majors in the College of Arts and Sciences complete a Senior Project, and therefore mentoring undergraduates as researchers is a key responsibility. The candidate will also assist with academic advising of students each semester.
Candidates should demonstrate a passion for the highest quality of teaching, combined with the ability to produce rigorous peer-reviewed academic scholarship. Scholarly activity leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals and service to the Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the University, and the profession are required.
