Job Description:
The Department of Integrative Biology (http://www.uoguelph.ca/ib/) seeks to appoint a tenure­-track faculty member in Computational Biology with emphasis on Bioinformatics. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in developing and applying computational tools, algorithms, and approaches to bioinformatics research. Through the development of new computational tools in bioinformatics, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with an established team of researchers whose collective goal is to establish a cutting-edge program to identify genomic and population responses to environmental stressors. Particular emphasis is placed on development and application of computational tools, algorithms, and approaches for acquiring, storing, organizing, archiving, analyzing, and visualizing data in efficient and innovative ways. Responsibilities:

  • establish an innovative research program in bioinformatics or computational biology
  • contribute to large, collaborative research programs at the university
  • contribute to graduate-level teaching in the bioinformatics graduate programs and to the training of thesis-based graduate students
  • contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Department of Integrative Biology
Qualifications:
  • must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology, biology with emphasis on bioinformatics/genomics, or other relevant PhD program)
  • excellent record of publication in international journals, including innovative research in computational biology, bioinformatics, and/or genomics
  • has background and skills to contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Department of Integrative Biology
  • has demonstrated the analytical skills and teaching/mentorship experience to teach graduate-level courses in bioinformatics and to train thesis-based graduate students
  • commitment to contribute to large collaborative research programs at the university
