Job Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The College of Science at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) seeks a statistical bioinformatician with expertise in big data analysis for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Successful candidates will develop productive research programs, mentor and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and collaborate with researchers in UTEP’s NIH-funded Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC). Anticipated appointment date is Fall 2015.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: UTEP offers a Professional Science Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, as well as undergraduate and graduate bioinformatics training through grants funded mainly by NIH, NSF, and USDA. The statistics faculty in the Department of Mathematical Sciences contributes to the interdisciplinary Bioinformatics Program through participation in bioinformatics related research, teaching, student mentoring, and program administration. They are also engaged as resource faculty for the Bioinformatics and Statistical Consulting Core Facilities of the BBRC providing bioinformatics computing, software development, experimental design, and data analysis support for biomedical researchers. Many ongoing projects in the BBRC require analysis of very large data sets generated by next generation sequencing, mass spectrometry (e.g., proteomics and metabolomics), and cryo-electron microscopy. More information about the BBRC, Bioinformatics Program, and Department of Mathematical Sciences is available at http://science.utep.edu/bbrc/, http://www.bioinformatics.utep.edu/, and http://www.math.utep.edu.
