Job Description:
The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in bioinformatics. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. The primary responsibilities are to participate in research activities in the School of Medicine, in part by providing bioinformatic analyses for biomedical researchers, and to teach bioinformatics and statistical methods to medical students and residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Research responsibilities will include analysis of next generation sequencing data and managing high throughput data pipelines. An ability to write data analysis scripts in programming languages such as R, Python, and/or Java, and familiarity with commonly-used open-source bioinformatics software is required. Although all well-qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to individuals with research interests in the genomic, genetic, epigenetic and environmental causes of complex diseases and with prior experience in statistical and bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of biomedical research goals, consult with biomedical investigators on experimental design and data analysis, collaborate in the preparation of grant applications and participate in the group meetings of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Core Facilities. Competitive state-funded salary commensurate with experience will be provided. Qualifications:

- Minimum requirements are a PhD or equivalent degree in a biomedical and/or biostatistics discipline.
- The successful candidate should have a strong background in methods of biostatistical analysis, bioinformatics tools and resources and analytical methods, genomics and genetics.
- The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communications skills and be able to orally present complex data sets and analyses to biomedical scientists.
- The successful candidate will also need to have a high level of interest in continuous learning of new science and tools for discovery.
- Postdoctoral experience is desirable
