Job Description:
Assistant Research Professor to head C. elegans Intervention Testing Project Position will organize and coordinate a team of researchers who test the role of pharmacological interventions on C. elegans lifespan and healthspan, participating directly in screen studies and data analysis. Job is to head an effort for anti-aging drug discovery that involves simultaneous reproducing of studies at three distinct sites (Rutgers, U. Oregon, Buck Institute for Aging Research). Job entails planning, executing, and monitoring health span and lifespan experiments, for C. elegans N2 and natural variants, including database entry analysis of results; maintaining worm strains with meticulous attention to detail; organizing at least 4 Rutgers lab technicians dedicated to the project. Data collection and interpretation, including manuscript writing will be involved.

Skills needed: C. elegans biology in general; experience in management of lab supplies, experience in coordinating and prioritizing multiple work demands, experience in database entry and management; C. elegans culture, lifespan, management and coordinating groups of researchers. Outstanding communication skills, outstanding management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize, statistical experience (desired), strong computer skills a plus, experience in File Maker Pro, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Prism graph pad, Matlab, Endnote useful.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

-PhD in Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Computational Biology or related areas. BA, BS or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, Computational Biology and related areas.

-Experience in C. elegans genetics and/or drug screening; knowledge of aging biology.

-At least 3 years of C. elegans genetics, strain maintenance, and experimentation highly preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-Proficiency in working with a dissecting microscope.

-Evidence of original research publications, aging biology preferred.

-Capacity for meticulous data collection and entry into group platform.

-Computer skills for networking.

Overview

Expectations:

-Maintain a range of wild Caenorhabditis nematode stocks under sterile, continuous culture.

-Maintain frozen stocks, conduct regular stock thaw as directed by SOPs.

-Work with a media technician to maintain a continuous stock of plates and bacteria for studies.

-Prepare drug intervention plates made exactly according to the SOPS of the CITP.

-Organize coordinated group experimental planning with a team of 3-4 Rutgers technicians.

-Participate in coordinated group experimental planning and small teams of investigators. (requires extensive electronic contact; supergroup Skype-type meetings)

-Execute and oversee lifespan and healthspan assays for 22 strain variants.

-Collect data and participate in data analysis on lifespan and healthspan
