Job Description:
The Asst Scientist, Bioinformatics in Research shall perform such duties/objectives as requested by the Director of the Division of Genetics & Epigenetics and the Chairman of the Research Department for the conduct of basic scientific and/or translational research.

  • Minimum on site work of 35 hours each week.
  • Maximum allotted time for professional activities away from the Hackensack University Medical Center of 30 days. Professional activities include; scientific consulting, editorial work, seminar participation, service on NIH study sections and review panels and attendance at national and international science meetings.
  • The Research Department expects the Assistant Scientist to use reasonable professional effort to acquire sufficient direct grant funding and philanthropic support to cover 50% of their salary and a good faith effort to cover as much as needed for the operation of their research laboratory at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:

  • Hold a M.D. or Ph.D. degree from an accredited medial school or graduate level institution.
  • Demonstrated involvement in program development, performance improvement, and research activities.
  • Minimum of six years total experience including appointment as either a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate, or Instructor, unless candidate has already obtained adequate independent research funding at the Federal or Foundation level (in which case a minimum of three years total post-degree experience is required).
  • Experience in studying the role of DNA methylation and epigenetic patterning, including allele-specific methylation, in the pathogenesis and susceptibility to common human diseases, including cancer, inflammatory disorders, and neurological disorders.
  • Extensive experience in molecular genetics and the analysis of genomic/epigenomic data, as well as case/control and population-based studies.
  • Computing and quantitative skills.
  • Potential for obtaining Federal or equivalent level Foundation grants.

Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred: Experience with basic cell and molecular biology techniques.
