Job Description:
Specific Responsibilities and Skills for the Position

The successful candidate for this position will support software development and testing activities for clinical virology information systems. The candidate will work with Bioinformatics Scientists to develop and test data analysis pipelines and Web applications used for investigation of viral subpopulations and drug resistance in clinical samples. The individual will work closely with Research Scientists, Regulatory and IT personnel to update functionality, test and document the information systems.

Required Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using programming and scripting languages such as C++/C#/Java and Perl/Python
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience writing SQL queries for SQL/Oracle/MySQL databases
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology and DNA sequencing technologies
  • Experience with source code control systems and software testing techniques such as unit and integration testing
  • Ability to coordinate release cycles and maintain different branches of multiple projects, resolve build issues, such as merge conflicts, compilation errors and missing dependencies
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with an ability to write technical documentation
Desired Knowledge, Experience and Skills :
  • Programming experience with C#, .NET and SQL
  • Knowledge of Web frameworks and technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery and PHP
  • Experience with open-source bioinformatics tools/packages (GATK and Bioconductor)
Specific Education and Experience :
  • 2+ years of experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related field
  • 1+ years of experience with a Master of Science degree in a related discipline
