Job Description:
The Associate Chair will be responsible for coordination with leadership and advocating for local faculty, staff, and students. The Associate Chair will lead planning for the program and deploy the policies and practices of the CS department. In addition, he or she will coordinate faculty teaching schedules with the CS Chair and assure times and locations meet local needs and compliment the entire statewide outreach, while ensuring quality of student educational and research experience (e.g., reviewing theses and dissertations, mediating and resolving conflicts, awarding scholarships and assistantships and facilitating career opportunities). Facilitate collaborative efforts related to initiatives such as the Co-op program and establish working groups to ensure successful initiation and growth.

Advertised salary range is including the 10% academic year administrative stipend.

Responsibilities

Job Duty Function: Teaching & Advising

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Support advising and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.

• Ensuring quality of student educational and research experience (e.g., reviewing theses and dissertations, mediating and resolving conflicts, awarding scholarships and assistantships and facilitating career opportunities).

• Teach courses in areas of expertise as necessary.

Job Duty Function Scholarship & Creative Activities

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Plan and initiate new programs and projects and coordinate research with other colleges/departments at UI and other Universities, with governmental agencies, and Industry.

• Establish a national or international reputation for scholarship by initiating, conducting, and directing scholarly activities.

• Obtain sufficient external funding to support on-going scholarly activity and graduate students.

Job Duty Function: Outreach

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Facilitate collaborative efforts related to initiatives such as the Co-op program and engage team to ensure successful initiation and growth.

• Represent and promote the CS department in Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding communities.

Job Duty Function: Service & Leadership

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Be the point person for the CS-CDA program and make sure it continues to be a priority. This responsibility includes coordination with leadership and advocating for local faculty, staff, and students.

• Lead planning for the program and deploy the policies and practices of the CS department. This includes local management for the budget.

• Maintain a good working relationship with the faculty and administrators of the CS program at North Idaho College (NIC).

• Manage CS department staff in Coeur d’ Alene.

• Coordinate faculty teaching schedules with the CS Chair and assure times and locations meet local needs and compliment the entire statewide outreach.

• Oversee student advising and making sure students are making adequate progress towards meeting graduation requirements.

• Ensuring quality of student educational and research experience (e.g., reviewing theses and dissertations, mediating and resolving conflicts, awarding scholarships and assistantships and facilitating career opportunities).

• Coordinate with the Coeur d’Alene Center Executive Officer, Department Chair and College Dean to raise funding for the program.

• Work with College and CdA Center marketing and communications on CS publications and contribute to the development of UI CS communication and marketing materials.

• Help the Chair with his/her responsibilities to the faculty statewide.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate degree in computer science (or closely related field) with the ability to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor (or higher).

• Strong scholarship in the field of computer science demonstrated by a track record of active and innovative teaching, scholarship, and outreach.

• Demonstrated success in grant writing and obtaining extramural funding.

• Demonstrated potential for excellent administrative skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience administering research and/or degree programs.

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and advocacy skills including oral and written communication.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse colleagues and stakeholders (e.g., students, alumni, industry, and government) across the university and within the community.

• Evidence of ability to support new programmatic development and integrated approaches to advancing recruitment and retention initiatives.

• Commitment to working collaboratively with College of Engineering and CdA Center administration and staff to grow undergraduate and graduate academic programs.

• Demonstrated evidence of the ability to evaluate programs and program assessment.

• A commitment to affirmative action and diversity.
