Job Description:
The Broad Institute is looking for an exceptional candidate to provide computational support to a dynamic research team, to investigate mechanisms of host-microbiome interactions in a variety of human diseases including inflammatory bowel disease. The candidate for this project will be responsible for applying and developing diverse molecular and computational tools to analyze next generation sequencing data and large multi-'omic datasets. The activities surrounding this position will be exclusively computational and represent exciting opportunities enabling groundbreaking discoveries in various aspects of the human gut microbiome. The Broad Institute provides a vibrant research environment with close links to top academic institutions across the BostonArea. Work performed by the candidate has a potential to be used and recognized worldwide. The successful candidate should hold a BS in computer science/bioinformatics or related biological field with at least 2 years of experience; or a MS in the relevant fields with bioinformatic experience. The candidate will play a key role in the implementation and support of novel bioinformatics computational and data analysis pipelines, and help to support research activities within the larger group. Supporting and developing tools to analyze DNA and RNA sequencing data of the human gut microbiota will be essential to this team member's role. Responsibilities will include: - To support research projects as needed including: managing large amounts of data, and monitoring and running pipelines. -To develop, enhance, and maintain current and new bioinformatics pipelines. REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: -BS in computer science or related field with coursework in biology bioinformatics or biology with project work in computational biology and at least 2 years of related experience, or MS in the relevant fields. Equivalent background will be considered. - Experience with next-generation sequencing preferred. -Experience with scripting or programming language. -Must be comfortable in a Unix environment. -Must work well with other members of the group and outside collaborators. -Excellent communication skills are essential.
