Job Description:
The focus of our group, the Computation and Innovation Lab, is to develop novel analysis strategies and to provide computational support towards the research and development of new genomic sequencing approaches. Our team supports both the innovative Broad Technology Labs and the Broad Institute Genomic Center for Infectious Disease. The BTL’s mission is to develop breakthrough methods and technologies that bridge the gap between proof of principle prototypes and fully integrated large scale processes, with a focus on bringing previously unavailable capabilities to the Broad community that can drive scientific progress. GCID’s mission is to to apply innovative genomic technologies to address fundamental gaps in our knowledge of the basic biology that underlies the interactions between hosts and pathogens. The Computation and Innovation Lab’s mission and the core purpose of this role is to enable scientific research. This is done by applying our extensive experience analyzing data from myriad technologies to develop new and execute existing computational algorithms and quality assurance methods and contribute to the biological interpretation of data. We also develop data visualization and presentation methods and apply software engineering principles to integrate components into production pipelines capable of running at scale.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
We are looking for a highly motivated self starter who is enthusiastic about taking a problem solving approach to genome wide investigation and collaborating with a diverse group of scientists. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated analytical and independent thinker who is comfortable applying diverse computational methods to address biological questions.
The following duties of will be required of this position:
-Executes data analysis strategies for genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic data sets, integrating data from multiple bioinformatics software tools. Within broad goals of project, works independently to analyze data and refine hypotheses.
- Develops and implements scripts to manipulate, format, parse, analyze and display genome sequence data. Develops new strategies for analysis and presentation of results.
- Develop algorithms and implement software to execute data analysis strategies
- Work with laboratory and research scientists to run analyses and experiments to evaluate and troubleshoot new genomic technologies
- Work with software engineers to create prototypes and document system specifications
- Research, assess, and standardize processes for new analysis tools and software
- Present data and experimental results to collaborating scientists and at seminars
- Collaborate closely with team members to identify and share new computational strategies.
- Provide training and guidance to team members
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in genomic analysis or, Master's degree in computational biology, computer science, or related field with 1+ years of related experience.
- Knowledge of genomic sequencing, bioinformatics tools and public sequencing databases is required.
- Experience with RNASeq and whole genome assembly methods preferred.
- Background in computational genomic and statistical analysis using nextgeneration sequence data required.
- Experience analyzing large genomic datasets in a research setting preferred.
- High proficiency in the Unix environment, and solid ability to code required. Python or Scala experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with cluster computing, parallelization, Java, R, databases and/or DevOps methods preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to perform both selfdirected and guided research are crucial.
