Job Description:
The job’s main responsibility is to collaborate with biologists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers to validate, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines and applications.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and manage a small team of 4-7 Bioinformatics Scientists & Software Engineers
  • Provide strategic input and leadership to analyze large and interpret NGS data
  • Provide consultation and guidance in innovation and improvement of bioinformatics pipelines
  • Lead the development of new features/tools assisting clinical and genetic analysis
  • Lead in quality assurance of the new product release and process improvements, including laboratory SOP testing, software validations, equipment validations, raw material qualification, and training and transferring new products to CLIA laboratory operations
  • Seek input and review from other groups on various projects proactively
  • Manage a team of bioinformatics programmers, and software engineers
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • MS degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, structural biology, biophysics, biology and computer science, or related discipline required
  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, structural biology, biophysics, biology and computer science, or related discipline strongly preferred
  • At least 7 years research and development experiments in the related fields
  • At least 5 years management experience of programmers and software engineers in industrial setting
  • Familiar with molecular biology, biological pathways, and genomics
  • Strong knowledge of current theories and principals of bioinformatics and computational biology
  • Experiences in using high performance computing and storage systems
  • Experience in Illumina sequencing data and bioinformatics Next Generation Sequencing pipelines
  • Proficiency in the use of bioinformatics software, packages, and database
  • Proficiency with Perl, Python, R, bash, C/C++, java, and SQL in Linux/Unix environment
  • Proficiency in utilizing and development biomolecular modeling and dynamics tools
  • Strong skills in the application of statistical analytical methods in genetic data analysis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team, among cross-departments, and as an independent contributor, requiring minimal supervision
