Job Description:
Iowa State University has launched the Presidential High Impact Hires initiative to support targeted faculty hiring in areas of strategic importance. This position is part of a cluster hire of five faculty in four colleges within the strategically important area of Translational Health, and is included among the 29 high-impact hires in the second year of this multi-year initiative.
The Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University seeks outstanding candidates for a tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor in Metagenomics. This position is 70% research and 30% teaching. Individuals with a primary disciplinary focus in microbiology and a secondary focus in nutrition, physiology, food safety, or animal genetics and genomics are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will have an established research program that enhances departmental strengths in animal growth and nutrition, response to heat stress, and animal health and well-being. The selected candidate will sustain a strong, externally funded research program, teach in the undergraduate Interdepartmental Microbiology curriculum, advise undergraduate and graduate students and provide service and leadership to Iowa State University, to external academic and scientific communities, and to the general public. Successful applicants will have interest in or ability to contribute to ISU's commitment to achieving excellence through a diverse workforce.
The successful candidate must be able to successfully communicate with a variety of audiences including students, faculty, staff, community members, industry leaders, and donors through written, oral, visual, and electronic communications.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Animal Science or related discipline, meet the university standards for appointments with tenure including a demonstrated success in an established, productive research program and a record of scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals. For appointments at the rank of Professor, applicants must demonstrate, in addition to the above, success in acquiring external resources for their research programs to sustain its excellence. Preferred education and experience include publication record in high-impact journals, collaboration in interdisciplinary research, and demonstrated excellence in teaching and experience in undergraduate teaching.
The Department of Animal Science is among the premier animal science departments in the country and is committed to excellence in research, teaching and extension. The collegial and collaborative faculty have well-funded research programs in livestock, companion animals, and biomedical models and are at the forefront in Animal Breeding and Genetics, Nutrition and Meat Science. The Department has a core group of faculty in Microbiology and Immunology and co-administers the undergraduate Interdepartmental Microbiology Program.
